As an insurance professional I talk to a lot of people who are new to our area. I know how hard it can be to figure out what fun things there are to do. So I want to share some of the things my family enjoys and maybe we'll see you there. We live in Winter Haven so that's where this is focused but we often find ourselves in Lakeland, Lake Wales or elsewhere in Polk County that we want to share about. If you see me or our mascot Josie, the Shetland Sheep Dog, be sure to say hi.
Saturday April 15th- Saturday mornings are for hanging around downtown, Winter Haven. After hitting up Haven Coffee Roasters, we'll be checking out Winter Haven Farmers Market (next to Grove Roots). One of my favorites, Botany Cats, will be there. Botany Cats is a cat rescue organization. They bring a cool trailer full of kitties and for a $5 donation you can hang out with the kitties and it’s glorious. Josie, the Shetland Sheep dog, is always trying to get in. They’re based out of Lakeland but we love seeing them in Winter Haven.
In the afternoon we’ll be heading out on Winter Haven’s Chain of Lakes to do some tubing and skiing. If you haven’t been out on the chain we love it. We might head over to Legoland for the Ski Show but honestly I prefer the quiet solitude of less traveled lakes. Like lake mirror.
Speaking of Skiing, if we have the energy we’ll go over to Winter Haven’s Lake Silver to see the Cypress Gardens Ski Team. I think the Chain of Lakes Big Band might be there to accompany them. So that will be awesome. If you’ve never seen the Ski Team they put on a fantastic show and the park you watch it from is amazing. Winter Haven did a great job redoing it over the last year.
Sunday April 16th- It’s blueberry picking season so that means a trip to Whitehead's Blueberry Farm. One of my favorite parts of living in Virginia was the pick your own orchards and berry farms and I’m so grateful we can experience that here with the Blueberries.
